Spice World - The Movie.
Story line
Our first glimpse of the Spice girls on the big screen - they're top of the bill on Top of the Pops, looking fabulous all in white. Naturally, they give a sensational performance but theres no time to hang around.
The Girls diaries are packed to bursting point and to add to the confusion they're being pursued by a documentary film crew, headed by Piers the director. Intent on getting the story behind the Spice Girls, he still manages to be a step behind them most of the time. Rushing through the Television Centre, the Girls only have a second for pop pal Elton John before dashing to the Spice Bus. First, however, they have to get past a few thousand of their fans waiting to catch a glimpse of them outside. And Clifford said they wouldn't have any trouble! Typical manager.
After spending some times with their fans the Girls fight their way to the Spice Bus. Outside theres an amazing Union Jack paintjob, and inside it's surprisingly roomy, with a specially-designed area for each Girl. Victoria can strike a pose on her catwalk while Emma has a swing to kick back, relax and suck on a lolly. Meanwhile, Geri takes time out to read a newspaper, Mel B is searching for the perfect outfit - where are those shoes? - and Mel C's burning it up on the exercise bike. Travelling on the bus is one of the few times the Girls get to relax, and it's no wonder they enjoy this time just being themselves, whether their reading horoscopes, trying on new dresses or having a full-scale pillow fight. It's a great place to unwind as they speed towards their next appointment-a massive press conference.
The Spice Bus pulls up at the Royal Albert Hall where hundreds of journalists and photographers are waiting to quiz the Girls about their first ever live concert there the following week. The press crowd around as Jonathan Ross prepares to interview the feisty fivesome. He's no sooner asked a question than the girls decide to give him a Girl Power going-over and smother him with kisses. He's been spiced. Everything seems to be going very well but the Girl's manager Clifford wants to be sure his boss is pleased. He puts in a call to The Chief, the mysterious mogul with the master plan. As he enjoys a Martini in his secret layer, the Chief smiles, as he realises that the Girls are one step closer to world domination.
Back in the studio, the Girls are rehearsing with their producer, while Piers and his documentary crew are in the background, filming everything they do. While the Girls are singing, their old friend Nicola walks in. She's known the Girls for years, and when they see her, they leap off stage and great her with big hugs, talking over each other and feeling Nicola's bump .
"Hey, aren't you big. How are you feeling?" ask the Girls. "My backs done in, my front's done in, my insides are wrecked, and I haven't seen my feet for weeks, but i hear they're fat too," grumbles Nicola. She is not having a good day. They should be rehearsing but their old friend needs some attention. At the same time, Piers is trying to film his documentary. "Look, here's a moment of emotion - raw emotion, and we're not getting it." he says to his camera-man. But Victoria's had enough: "Do you mind not filming for a minute, please?" The Girls are geting broody at the sight of their pregnant chum, Nicola.
"You wait till you lot start having kids. That'll be really weird," she says. Suddenly we see into the future - just what kind of Mama's will those Spice Girls make? They'll all be different, that's for sure. The Spice Girls are guest of honour at a trendy London party. Although no one's really listening to what they have to say the girls do their best to have a. good time hanging out with the celebrities. The security seems to be tight so they have no idea that Damien, a sneaky paparazzi photographer hired by evil editor Kevin McMaxford is hidden away trying to catch them off guard.
Hard at work on a photo shoot the Girls are still worried about being stereotypes. "I think we should give ourselves new characters," says Mel C between camera flashes. "Like Bricklayer Spice," says Victoria, "Or Sporty-but-Im-into-other-things-as- well Spice," says Mel C. "Or cheesed-of-with-cheesy-photo-sessions Spice," says Geri. the Girls decide that they've had enough of the shoot - it's time to have some fun. To keep themselves amused while the photo shoot goes on, the Girls go wild in the wardrobe department and dress up as their favourite stars. Actresses, superheroes and pop legends are just some of the disguises that take their fancy - it's a laugh becoming their heroes and the Girls carry it off in true Spice style.
It's another tiring day for the Girls. They've got a live performance in Milan that evening so they've got to fly out to Italy to rehearse before the evening show. However, nothing is ever trouble-free. As the Girls begin to rehearse, some scantily-clad men invade the stage, dancing with them. Not very Girl Power. Clifford is absolutely furious as the boys try to hog the stage with their downmarket prancing. He argues fiercely with the Italian producer Genarro about the tackiness of it all. Ever resourceful, Geri works out a compromise - the boys are covered up and kept in the background and by special appointment, they are joined on stage by the true leader of the pack, Gary Glitter.
After a good stomp it's straight back to London. As the Girls head back to London, they ask their driver Dennis to make a stop by the side of a big dark forest - the plumbing's not working on the Bus and the Girls are dying for a pee. Clifford is very agitated by the delay but the Spices don't care - they're to busy running through the forest enjoying a moments freedom. Suddenly they hear a humming noise and a dull glow begins to light up the trees. They came from a galaxy, far, far away, just to get the Spice Girls' autographs.
The aliens are just as important as any other Spice fan, so the girls give them their full attention until they return to their ship. After all that excitement, the Girls are not pleased when, back in the Spice Bus, clifford breaks the news that their long awaited day off has had to be cancelled. Apparently they need some extra dancing lessons. It's time for a dance lesson - Major Step's in charge and he's got some distinctly military opinions about how to get them in step. Deciding they're not fit enough, he decides that they've got to do an army assault course - if they survive that, they'll be able to survive anything.
To wind down after their exhausting work-out, the Girls spend their evening in a stately home. Over a candlelit dinner they decide to get personal with Clifford. "So what's you're girlfiend situation?" Asks Geri. Clifford having none of this and pretty soon the Girls are sent off to bed. But they can't sleep - something's making them uneasy. As they cuddle up in Victoria's huge four poster bed they have no idea that Damien the evil photographer has sneaked into the house and is listening to them chatting in bed. They're terrified about their live show at the Royal Albert Hall - what if it all goes wrong? Damien hears everything and a 'Spices Fear Live Concert' article appears the newspaper. Relaxing in the garden the next day the Girls get an earful from Clifford about it. They couldn't care less and rip up the newspaper, sending Clifford mad. Back in London at a riverfront resteraunt the American producer is still trying to convince Clifford that he's got a decent script for the Girls.
He's pitching his latest idea to a very bored manager. Basically, the safety of the entire world is threatened. Faced with destruction at the hands of extraterrestrial terrorists, the US president only has one option: call in Spice Force Five. Each Girl is a crack operative in her own field, a super spy, out there to battle evil and save the universe. But Cliffords not too impressed with the story and sends the writer back to the drawing board. The Girls have had enough of never having any fun, and with their competition winners they hijack a speed boat, to go for a thrilling ride at breakneck speed. Deborah and Clifford watch from a bridge - he's desperately worried. The Girls haven't spotted a large piece of driftwood bobbing about in front of the boat and the driver's too busy watching the Girls.
Trying to warn them, Clifford waves madly at the Girls but they only wave back. The boat hit's the wood at top speed and Victoria and the two children are thrown into the Thames. Luckily, Mel C's at hand and dives into the water Baywatch style to rescue them all. Meanwhile. no-one's noticed the loan diver at the edge of the water. As usual, Damien's seen everything and the papers will be full of it tomorrow. The Girls have barely recovered from their Thames ordeal when they're told to get straight back to work. And Clifford is not best pleased that their antics are splashed over the front pages of the papers. "You don't have a life, you have a schedule," he yells. This time he's gone too far and the Girls end up fighting with him and walking off stage."I think I might have started the Spice Girls' break up," says Clifford to Debs. Storming off the stage the Girls each return to their homes with heavy hearts - why can't life be as simple as when they started out? Strangely, their kinds all drift back to the same scene. They all think back to the time they were almost too shy to perform their hit song "Wannabe" but Nicola was there encouraging them and eventually they sang and danced for their pal Brian in his cafe - just for the fun of it.
He must have been one of the first people to hear the song and see the Spice Girls performing live! The Girls sit eating chips together on a park bench. "I wonder if we've changed a lot since we've got famous," says Geri. "We just worry about different things now," says Emma. "In the old days it was like 'where's our next single coming from? Now it's where's our next single going to get to." "And it's all going to be over soon?" adds Victoria. Pondering their future, the girls imagine being judged for the quality of their future work by a rather peculiar judge. "Melvin B, Emma, Melvin C, Victoria and Geri. You have been found guilty of releasing a single that is not as 'kicking' as you're previous records. Nor does it have such a wicked, dirty baseline." Clifford is miserable, at his wits' end sits alone in a speedy bar. Unable to see a way out of all his problems, he calls the Chief who is no help. Luckily the ever-faithful Deborah joins him and helps to drown his sorrows. Meanwhile the Girls have decided to bust out for a night on the town, they hook up with Nicola, who's up for it even though she's heavily pregnant. it's time for some Girl Power! They shoot down to top club The Ministry Of Sound and pile on to the dancefloor for "Who Do you Think You Are" But as their dancing away, Nicola suddenly realises the baby's on it's way.
The Girls rush down to the hospital but they have to wait around - the baby's in no hurry to arrive. Emma sneaks forty winks while Geri chats up a doctor. Morning arrives and Clifford is frantically waiting for them to turn up for their live gig. They call and let him know the score: they're not coming back until their friend's had the baby - no matter what. "It's called loyalty," says Deborah to a furious Clifford. The Girls leave the delivery room exhausted. As doctors and nurses hurry past, one bumps into Geri. Something falls to the floor - a camera! The Girls look at the doctor - it's Damien! He stares at the Girls then bolts off down the hospital corridor, running full pelt into a bed that's coming round the corner. The bed slams into a wall and Damien flies into it cracking his head. Now the Girls have no time to waste - they've still got to get to their concert, they've been in the hospital for hours and it's a race against time.
Their driver Dennis is nowhere to be seen, so it's up to Victoria to take the wheel. After a hair-raising 100 mph dash across London they screech to a halt outside the Royal Albert Hall. It needs all Emma's charms to get round the policeman waiting to arrest them for dangerous driving. As usual, one bat of Baby's big lashes and a sweet smile gets them out of mischief. The Girls are on stage singing their fantastic new number and giving the show of their lives. It's the moment we've all been waiting for - the crowd go wild. It's an incredible performance, the Girls look amazing and everything perfect! Girl Power!
